About Cheryl

I have one dog, a 13 year old Siberian Husky “Skyler” who is wonderfully patient with me. She is so forgiving and puts up with all my crazy ideas. From fostering rescue dogs (not as recent), to bringing clients dogs in and out for sleepovers and training demos.

I recently lost my training partner and best friend Mercedes in November of 2015. She was 10 years when she passed and was one of the best dogs I have ever known.

I competed in Obedience with my pug Mercedes, may she rest in peace. We got her Novice CD (Companion Dog) title and Rally RN (Rally Novice) title. We trained for Open and Utility, skills such as dumbbell retrieval and scent articles; however did not compete. She was a certified CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and we shifted gears to therapy with children in schools and demonstration in classes for new owners.

I started The Last Paw Dog training back in 2006. I had a traumatic experience with a rescue dog a year prior and I was determined to not make those mistakes again. When I began to look into dog behavior, I found Animal Behavior College (ABC). It was then I decided to become a dog trainer. I began the schooling and a little under a year later I was a certified through Animal Behavior College and never looked back.

I began teaching group classes at Braden River Animal Hospital, where I continue to teach today. Almost 10 years together and the staff still haven't kicked me out!

I taught private lessons in the owner's home and trained the dogs and owners to work together

I worked for two years with a local shelter:
• Developing relationships with shelter dogs
• Creating adoption and surrender programs
• Evaluating dogs and creating profiles for each one
• Creating a volunteer dog walkers program
• Continued education for dogs after adoption
• Structured daily play groups for the shelter dogs
• Trained staff to work the shelter dogs on agility
I won't bore you with the rest

These dogs would teach me more about who dogs really are than I could ever have dreamed. Having the opportunity to train a dog without an owner around, created a skill that I continue to draw upon everyday in my training. REAL LIFE DOGS
